Dear Community Partner,
The Orange County Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recently received a national AAP grant, sponsored by the Allstate Foundation, to implement the Project for Teen Driver and Occupant Safety in Orange County. While some of our teens are learning to drive and going through the current Graduated Driver’s License (GDL) requirements, most are delaying obtaining their license. Our project targets teen drivers and occupants, empowering teens and their families to take responsibility to stay safe when traveling in a vehicle. The project will focus on the following activities:
1. Establish a multidisciplinary advisory committee via the Orange County Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics.
2. Engage Orange County pediatricians, providing them with continuing medical education, resources to counsel their teen patients and families, and advocacy messages for safe teen driving community policies, enforcement of the GDL and working with the diverse Orange County population.
3. Develop and disseminate educational resources for pediatricians to use during office visits.
4. Convene our community of teens, parents, schools, law enforcement, and teen safe driving organizations to review and discuss the best means of addressing young drivers and passengers on vehicle safety.
We invite you to join us as a member of the Teen Driver and Occupant Safety Advisory Committee, to provide your unique experience and expertise to ensure success of this new program. Our first meeting will be held on
